Former Residence of Mei Lanfang
Mei Lanfang was one of the most famous Peking opera artists in modern history. Known for his Dan role and was the first artist to take Beijing Opera to foreign countries.
Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum is a serene, classic Beijing courtyard which covers an area of 700 square meters. In this residence Mei Lanfang lived and spent his last years until his death on August 8, 1961. It was not opened to the public until 1986. It houses a valuable collection of books, manuscripts, calligraphies and paintings which were donated by Mei’s family in 1965. Visitors can also see the furniture used by Master Mei, and photos of his life and career, and his costumes and stage properties. They are preserved here with great care.
