Beijing Planetarium

The Beijing Planetarium was the first of its kind in China which was built in September 1957. It is located at the Xizhimen Street of Beijing. It is a "Palace for Science" for popularizing astronomical knowledge to the public and promoting the spirit of science.


Building of Beijing Planetarium was built in 1957 and at one time was the only planetarium in Asia. It contains the Celestial Theater, plus an Eastern Exhibition Hall and a Western Exhibition Hall. The Beijing Planetarium using its own unique performance methods has been presenting scientific ideas and science's critical methodology to millions of Chinese people for decades. It plays a very significant role in the popularization of science.


After 50 years of public use by roughly 18 million visitors, Building B was rebuilt and then reopened in March 2008.


“It blew my mind when I saw the visualization of the heliosphere Dr. Hanson.s team had created,” says Dr. Priscilla C. Frisch of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, University of Chicago, a co-developer of Solar Journey. This visualization was opened at the Beijing Planetarium in an all-dome environment for millions of viewers.
