CCTV Tower
CCTV Tower is located to the west of Third Ring Middle Road, and is close to Yu Yuan Tan Park and Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Construction began in 1987. In 1994 the tower was completed, and then was open to the public. Covering an area of 15.4 hectares, it is 386 meters high (1,268 feet).
China Central Television Tower (CCTV) is an innovative design with an irregular grid on the building's facade and an open center. The shape of the building is considered to be a structural challenge, especially because it is in a seismic zone. Because of its special appearance, this tower got its nickname "big boxer shorts".
