Chengde was an ideal destination for royal families to escape the summer heat in ancient times with numerous palaces. A mixture of traditional Chinese style and Tibetan style, it presents a Tibetan experience outside of Tibet.

Tour Details
After breakfast, our guide will pick you up at your hotel and we will head out to Chengde which is a 3 1/2 hours'drive. En route, we will visit Jinshanling Great Wall which is a restored section that maintains the original features from ancient times. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will continue to drive to the Chengde Summer Palace. The Chengde Summer Palace was a summer retreat for royal families to escape the summer heat. It is a grand architectural complex, characterized by its simplicity, elegance and wonderful scenery.

The Chengde Summer Palace consists of various pavilions, temples and other structures. We will visit two out of the eight outer temples – the Pule Temple and the Putuozongcheng Temple. The Pule Temple is located in a plain area where one can see panoramic mountain scenery. The magnificent Pule Temple blends Chinese style and Tibetan style structures, with a large number of glazed ornaments and colorful decorations. The Putuozongcheng Temple is known as the "Small Potala Palace" outside Tibet as the temple was built by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty to accommodate the Dalai Lama of Tibet. It models the design of the Potala Palace and adds more traditional Chinese style architecture. We will drive back to Beijing after the tour.
